Gold for The Learning Escape in The Green Apple Awards
Established 20 years ago, The Green Organisation is an international, independent, non-profit, non-political, non-activist environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world. Its Green Apple Awards have become the UK’s most respected scheme for the recognition of environmental endeavour among companies, councils, communities and countries.
The Learning Escape were delighted to recently receive a Gold Green Apple Award for the Built Environment, having competed against more than 500 other nominations for the honour. Richard Harvey, founder and CEO, and his partner Mark Guyatt of Metropolis Architecture, proudly accepted the award which recognised the company’s environmental credentials and commitment to providing sustainable building solutions for the education sector.
Together with the rest of the Learning Escape team, Richard and Mark are wholly committed to the creation of eco-friendly teaching spaces that are inspiring for children and motivating for their teachers. Each of our classrooms maximise the penetration of natural light into the learning environment which has a proven positive effect on the ability to learn and upon behaviour. Pupils are able to make a vital connection with the natural surroundings of their school which naturally stimulates conversation about the importance of taking care of the beautiful world in which they live. Their interest in the “great outdoors” is rejuvenated through easy access to outdoor learning, and their desire to explore their environment is fuelled. The concepts of environmental citizenship and environmentalism naturally become a crucial element of the curriculum.
We passionately believe that today’s generation of school children are tomorrow’s ambassadors for the change necessary to tackle the environmental challenges facing us all, and are thrilled that The Green Organisation have recognised our vision.
