Apprentice Timber Frame Designer

Salary: Β£24,000
Contract: Fixed-term contract
Location: Coventry

Job Description:

We seek a talented Apprentice Timber Frame designer to join our dynamic team at TG Escapes. As an Apprentice Timber Frame designer, you will have the amazing opportunity to work for an award-winning multidisciplinary consultative contractor who works on projects from conception to handover. You will be enrolled in an appropriate apprenticeship course, working toward a Level 4 qualification.

We are looking for an ambitious individual who will work well within the team and show common sense and a proactive approach to their tasks. You will work closely with a mentor who will also provide career guidance.

On completion of the apprenticeship, you may be offered a degree apprenticeship, a permanent position or supported in pursuit of other options.

Key Responsibilities:

Β· We will provide training for you to become proficient with CAD/CAM software.
Β· Gain an understanding of our business by being fluent in our build process from conception to completion.
Β· You will become incredibly proficient in timber design while becoming competent in general consultancy aspects of masonry, steel, and concrete.
Β· Preparation of technical materials, i.e., construction and Manufacturing drawings and specifications suitable for tenders, planning, and building control.
Β· Identifying and managing risk through properly coordinating design information in line with project programmes.
Β· Coordinate with stakeholders and suppliers to ensure consistent designs are delivered.
Β· Produce detailed construction information suitable for site teams to deliver built products without compromising programme, quality, health & safety and cost
Β· Provide suitable support to site teams to ensure compliance with statutory requirements
Β· You will become computer literate on the software programs that we use and have a working knowledge of our associated Eurocodes. Ensuring that you are in the habit of checking workings by hand and cross-checking, and not relying on the software answers verbatim.
Β· You need to have attention to detail and be meticulous with your work.
Β· A willingness to learn, improve and grow with the company.

Qualifications & Experience:

Β· 3 – A levels, Minimum C or equivalent (predicted grades will be considered)
Β· Exposure to design software such as AutoCAD & Revit.
Β· Awareness of design codes and Building regulations. (preferred)
Β· Clean UK Driving Licence (preferred)

Pre-Construction Manager

Location: Coventry Head Office (Office-Based with Potential Hybrid Working)
Salary: Attractive & Negotiable (DOE)
Hours: Mon–Thurs 8:00–17:00 | Fri 8:00–14:30 (Minimum 37 hours per week)

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Pre-Construction Manager will lead all pre-contract activities, ensuring projects transition smoothly from client instruction through to contract execution. This role is key to securing viable, profitable projects and coordinating internal teams, consultants and clients.
Candidates must be within commutable distance of Coventry Head Office, although flexible/hybrid working may be available.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
β€’ Lead all pre-construction activities and act as main point of contact
β€’ Coordinate feasibility reviews, site assessments and early design input
β€’ Manage design information flow and external consultants
β€’ Support estimating, cost planning and tender submissions
β€’ Develop pre-construction and manufacturing programmes
β€’ Identify and manage risks and ensure CDM and compliance standards
β€’ Lead client meetings and manage stakeholder expectations
β€’ Deliver full handover to construction teams at contract award

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential:
β€’ Proven pre-construction experience in modular / MMC or off-site construction
β€’ Leadership of multidisciplinary design teams
β€’ Strong commercial awareness and tender experience
β€’ Excellent organisational and communication skills

Desirable:
β€’ Education or leisure sector experience
β€’ Knowledge of sustainable construction
β€’ Planning and building control knowledge
β€’ Project programming software experience
β€’ Degree or equivalent in a construction-related discipline

Senior Architect

Hours: Full-Time
Location: Based in Coventry (covering projects throughout the UK)

The Role:

An ambitious Architect / Technologist who is keen to flourish in a busy environment. You will have both design and technical skills and a strong eye for detail. A working knowledge of BIM will be an advantage and an interest in passive design and sustainability will be considered as differentiating factors.

Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

  • Supervise, mentor, and provide direction to all members of the architectural team.
  • Take receipt of a brief and, with only limited intervention, manage the design process from initial sketches to full detailed design in line with the RIBA Plan of Work.
  • Prepare compliant designs by following UK Construction Law, British Standards, and relevant CoPs.
  • Select and advise on material specification, respecting the limited availability of natural resources when making design decisions with consideration of design life and durability.
  • Author specifications and source up-to-date technical information from manufacturers, ensuring this is evidenced in project folders
  • Assist in gathering and preparing information to support statutory submissions, such as Planning, Building Regulations, and Building Safety Gateways.
  • Contribute to and help coordinate the development of TGE Pre-Construction Information in line with the RIBA Plan of Work and TGEs Deliverables and Design Risk Management.
  • Assist the Project Team with designing to a budget and, where required, help with value engineering.
  • Participate in project review meetings and coordinate with members of the wider Design, Operations, and Procurement Teams.
  • Undertake proper and sufficient checking of architectural information prior to forwarding to the Technical Director for approval.
  • Ensure compliance with Document Control in line with TGE Protocols.

Your Skills and Experience

The following qualifications would be required:

  • Registered with the ARB or chartered with CIAT, with approximately 10 years of post-chartered experience working in the UK.
  • Ideally, you have cross-sector experience, predominantly in the Education Sector delivering to the DFE framework, though commercial and leisure experience is an advantage.
  • Experience in drawing and delivering within BIM Level 2 workflows and environments.
  • Proven ability to lead architectural project teams and manage multiple complex projects concurrently from inception to completion.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex design concepts to a variety of audiences, combined with exceptional problem-solving abilities and a dynamic “can-do” approach.
  • Knowledge of other design software, including Lumion, Photoshop, InDesign, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office, is preferred.
  • Understanding of NBS/Uniclass Specification software.
  • Familiarity with Passivhaus and timber frame construction is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated commercial awareness of design and construction processes.

Office Based role (Coventry Head Office) – Mon to Thurs 8:00 to 17:00 (Fri 8:00 to 14.30)
