Case Study
Eco-Building for SEND at Pengwern College
Pengwern College wanted to replace their mobile units and make more of their natural environment. This was our first SEND project, showing our team how well our modular approach benefitted students with complex needs.
Pengwern College is a specialist further education college in North Wales, offering day, and up to 52-week residential placements for young people aged 16 to 25 with a learning disability and complex needs.
Why did you want to develop an outdoor learning space?
The previous classrooms were older-style mobile units; they werenât designed with our learnersâ specialist needs in mind and we wanted to make the most of our wonderful, natural environment.
What made The Learning Escape stand out from other providers?
From start to finish, the Learning Escape team were highly accommodating. They listened to, and took on board, all of our ideas and were very patient as we changed our minds on lots of occasions.
What are the biggest benefits youâve noticed for the students and college?
It has made such a difference being in a beautiful room that is warm and quiet. The lovely view outside really appeals to all the senses. Itâs such a calming environment and I have noticed that the students are much calmer and more engaged. They like the structure of the room: low stimulus really works for our Autistic learners.
How did you find working with The Learning Escape overall?
They took away all the worry and managed the project from beginning to end for us, meeting all our expectations. 5 stars
TG Escapes have also provided classrooms for The Cambian Group at Hillgate Farm School. Since constructing these two buildings, we’ve worked on a range of SEND projects across the UK, from education hubs for the visually impaired to large classroom blocks.
