Stunning modular SEN, SEND and SEMH buildings
For over 20 years TG Escapes have been creating stunning timber buildings for clients across the UK, with a focus on the SEND and SEMH spaces (formerly referred to as SEN). Whether you need a single classroom or a larger specialist block, our expert team can design, build, and install a solution tailored to your needs.
With hundreds of educational buildings completed across the UK, we have a wealth of experience in the many complex needs that must be catered for within each classroom. We also understand how crucial a durable solution is, with each of our timber-framed modular buildings designed for 50 years of regular use.
The modular approach allows for faster installation, minimised disruption to your school, and a more sustainable construction process. Plus, we offer an upfront design process, providing you with a bespoke design and a fully costed price before work commences.
Designed, built, and installed by our team
At TG Escapes, we offer a complete turnkey service, making the process of creating a bespoke SEN, SEND or SEMH classroom seamless from start to finish. It all begins with a consultation to understand your schoolβs specific needs, the students who will use the space, and the site available. We also collaborate with developers on high-quality buildings to meet their Section 106 obligations. Our experienced team will work closely with you to identify the best solution, prioritising accessibility, functionality, and comfort. We’ve worked on spaces for students with severe learning difficulty (SLD), visual impairments (VI), profound and multiple learning difficulty (PMLD), and more
Our in-house architects will design a bespoke solution tailored to your requirements. Alongside the design, we provide a clear upfront cost, with adjustments available to meet your budget. We design to meet net zero in operation as standard, and prioritise biophilic design principles throughout, with natural light, views of the outdoors, and excellent ventilation. Biophilia provides benefits for all students and staff, including students with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD).
Once youβre happy with the design, we construct the building off-site as precision-cut timber frames and panels. The building is then swiftly delivered and installed, with our team handling every stage. This modular approach ensures quality control while greatly reducing disruption to your school.
Our team handles all finishing touches including power, water, and painting, ensuring your new classroom is fully functional and ready for students as quickly as possible.
Why modular?
Modular construction is the ideal solution for SEN, SEND and SEMH classrooms, offering a faster, more cost-effective, and flexible approach to creating high-quality learning environments than traditional brick-and-mortar approaches. Hereβs why:
- Cost-Effective: Modular buildings provide a high-quality, long-term solution at a competitive price, with a clear upfront cost provided without obligation.
- Faster Installation: Thanks to streamlined off-site manufacturing, your new building will be ready to use quicker, with less disruption to the school site.
- Bespoke Design: Every building we produce is completely bespoke. For SEND facilities, weβll ensure accessibility, flexibility, and support for a wide range of learning styles.
- Sustainable: Our timber-framed modular buildings are designed to achieve net zero as standard, reducing energy consumption and environmental impact.
- Biophilic Benefits: Sustainable timber, views of nature, and simple outdoor access help to create a calming, sensory-friendly space that enhances well-being and supports emotional regulation. Read more about biophilia here.
What makes up a fantastic SEND classroom?
Our team has designed and built a huge range of SEND spaces, prioritising accessibility, flexibility, and sensory comfort to ensure all students feel supported and engaged. Every element, from room layout to lighting, acoustics, and outdoor access, plays a role in creating a positive learning environment. With SEND needs ranging from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), a from the ground up design process is crucial.
Weβll look to prioritise:
- Clear layouts with adaptable spaces to support different learning styles and needs.
- Acoustic insulation to reduce noise and create a calm atmosphere, essential for students with sensory difficulties.
- Natural light and ventilation to improve focus and well-being.
- Quiet zones and breakout spaces for emotional regulation and one-on-one support.
- Safe, accessible outdoor areas to encourage movement and connection with nature.
Tailored SEMH spaces
We also work on specialist SEMH spaces, creating calm, structured, and supportive areas where students feel safe and engaged. Features like acoustic padding, soft lighting, quiet areas, and strong connections to nature can help reduce anxiety and improve focus. For a great example of our work, explore the Eco SEMH Building we constructed for Mountfield Heath School.

Modular SEND Classroom FAQs
What types of special educational needs can TG Escapes accommodate with their modular buildings?
Our modular SEND classrooms accommodate the full spectrum of special educational needs, including students with autism (ASD), ADHD, severe learning difficulties (SLD), visual impairments, PMLD, multi-sensory impairments, SLCN, and social, emotional and mental health needs.
Our SEMH expertise includes Mountfield Heath School in Kent, where we created calm, structured spaces featuring therapeutic intervention rooms, sensory facilities, and dedicated reintegration spaces. The executive headteacher reported remarkable success, including one student who’d been out of education for three years successfully returning to mainstream learning.
For students with profound and multiple learning disabilities, we’ve delivered comprehensive facilities like Beacon Hill School’s 60-place, 10-classroom building. This successful education project incorporated two PMLD bases with hygiene rooms, secure hoists, platform lifts, and 1250mm automatic doors for wheelchair accessibility. All internal walls received additional reinforcement for high-impact robustness.
We’ve also created specialist provision for visually impaired students at Woking High School, increasing their SEND hub capacity from 12 to 20 places. Our autism-specific projects include dedicated resource bases and entire school facilities designed exclusively for students on the spectrum.
How does the design and consultation process work for creating a bespoke TG Escapes SEN/SEMH facility?
We begin with a free design consultation and site survey, working closely with you to understand your students’ specific needs, site opportunities, and educational objectives. Every building is completely bespoke – our design team focuses on the physical and mental wellbeing requirements of your particular SEND population.
The consultation process is highly collaborative. Schools consistently praise our engagement with all stakeholders, gathering feedback to ensure designs align perfectly with requirements. This iterative approach allows you to shape the building to your exact specification whilst we handle the technical complexities.
Throughout your project, you’ll have a dedicated point of contact managing everything from initial design through to handover. Our experienced education team provides:
- Expert guidance – Partnership with SEND specialist architects including Haverstock
- Biophilic design integration – Natural light, outdoor access, and sustainable materials
- Functional planning – Optimal layouts supporting learning and emotional regulation
- Compliance assurance – Meeting all Building Bulletins and DfE specifications
- Stakeholder engagement: Including student involvement where appropriate
We address critical considerations including circulation patterns, sensory environments, therapeutic spaces, and accessibility requirements. You can specify sensory rooms, therapy areas, life skills facilities, hygiene rooms, and breakout zones – all designed to support your specific cohort.
