How we achieve net zero across our modular buildings

By controlling every aspect of construction and utilising a panelised modular system, our team achieves net zero as standard on every building we produce. Every aspect of work is completed by our team, with designs from our in-house architects, manufacturing of all timber frames and panels at our Coventry headquarters, and installation and finishing from our professional team. This allows us to accurately measure emissions and work to reduce them across our processes. As a company, we are also working towards net zero.

Our buildings are designed from the ground up around achieving net zero. We use sustainably sourced timber for the frames and panels that make up our classrooms, offices, cafes and sports halls. We also use recycled insulation and a pad-based foundation system that minimises concrete use, further reducing carbon costs.

We include many features in our buildings that limit energy use or generate energy. We design around maximising sunlight, including through window placement and the use of sun pipes. Our team also incorporates solar panels and green roofs. By opting for a modular solution, there are clear reductions in material waste, reductions in energy use, and reductions in site impact, which will also contribute towards achieving net zero. While these measures are often enough to achieve net zero without the need for additional measures, in extreme cases, carbon offsetting may also be required.

Creating healthy, sustainable modular buildings

Our focus on creating eco-friendly spaces doesn’t end with our net zero commitments. We prioritise sustainable components throughout, especially our timber which is sourced from managed forests in British Columbia.

Another key priority for our team is Biophilia, which goes hand in hand with our net zero focus. Biophilic design looks to bring the benefits of nature into a building, through fantastic views of the outdoors, natural light, and high levels of ventilation. We prioritise biophilic principles throughout, building around easy exterior access, aligning buildings to maximise sunlight and provide great views of nature, and incorporating aspects like green roofs.

Biophilic design has a wealth of benefits to mental and physical health, particularly within classroom environments. Our team is dedicated to making spaces that are bright, positive, and built around the outdoors. This focus on nature also allows us to meet Biodiversity Net Gain targets for Section 106 projects.

Our stunning net-zero buildings

Across more than 20 years and hundreds of buildings, we’ve completed a huge range of projects including specialist SEND classrooms, sports pavilions, school blocks and cafes. Thanks to our panelised modular system, we can create high-quality permanent buildings faster and for a lower price than brick and mortar, with a truly bespoke design process. We also handle all work ourselves, with in-house architects, manufacturing, and installation. Whether a single standalone modular classroom or a large block, our buildings achieve net zero in operation as standard.

Every one of our buildings begins with a complementary design process, and an upfront price covering the entire building. This is a set price, not an estimate, ensuring simple budgeting for our clients. Our team can work directly with schools and commercial clients, or collaborate with consultants and housing developers.

Just one of our net-zero buildings

We work with educational and commercial clients on a range of buildings, achieving net zero in operation as standard across every bespoke design. Our team completed a net-zero building for Solihull school in just 7 months. Containing eight classrooms, the building achieved an A+ energy rating, and was certified carbon neutral in regulated energy use.
